each one of you is a part of it" 1 Corinthians, 12:27

                                  to the OX33ians

Welcome to the launch issue of the CHRISTIANS IN THE COMMUNITY
newsletter! Its vision is to link the body of Christians in the
Wheatley area (OX33), whether they worship locally, in Oxford,
         Thame or beyond.

It is often easy to feel we are doing things in isolation,
struggling hard to maintain the status quo. But if you consider the
large and diverse group which joined in the Procession of Witness
on Good Friday, or who met at the URC on July 16th, our vision is
that united, God has so much more for us to achieve in our area.

         So here's the theory:
To receive this newsletter regularly, please email
Kevin1.Betts@ntlworld.com (no matter where this email came from)
saying you wish to subscribe. Also, please forward these emails
to anyone you think may be interested. Or if they don't have
email, please print it off for them! You won't receive the
regular newsletter directly from the editor unless you ask.

Studies show that if you send an email to your friends, and they
send it to their friends, etc - by the fifth step everyone with an
email address will have received it - Rowan Williams, the Pope,
even the Christian you haven't yet met three doors down from you.
It won't take long before most Christians in OX33 are contacted.

Finally, this newsletter is here to support us all. Please
email Kevin1.Betts@ntlworld.com with details to share for the next
newsletter. Being the launch issue, the content below is only that
which your editor is currently aware, so please forgive any
particular bias. Future issues will be written by you! Initially it
may appear erratically, but hopefully will settle down to a regular
         (monthly?) schedule.

                                  -+ GOOD NEWS +-
                            Building the Kingdom Locally

40 local Christians from many churches met at the Wheatley URC on
July 16th, many of whom had not met before, to discover what God
is, and could be doing in the area. 6 topics where briefly
discussed; Children, Youth, the Elderly, Community events, Meeting
Point and Prayer. God blessed the meeting with renewed enthusiasm,
and a couple of new projects (among others) - a free fun day for
Wheatley in November, and a children's Christmas party in December
         - see the EVENTS section below! Volunteers are required for both
projects, so if you would like to get involved, please contact the
relevant people. Cyril Newton and Lucy Betts are organising another
meeting, provisionally at the URC on Wednesday, September 24th.

The new Anglican team rector for the Wheatley Team Ministry, James
Watson, will be licensed on Sunday 19th October at 3.00pm in St.
Mary’s Church, Wheatley. All are welcome.

Brookes are looking for families to adopt a student from
the University this year. This would involve inviting your
adopted student for meals (say once a month), and being there for
them during their stay on the Wheatley campus. If you are
interested, please contact Sarah Turner on 876118

Jen Woods is looking for people who could host attendees for the
Helping People Grow course over Sep 12th/13th - please phone
Jen Woods on 876596 if you can help.

                                 He is listening...

Please pray for the new leadership of St. Mary's Wheatley, and for
         the URC also.

Also pray for Wheatley's schools, and for Brookes University at
the start of a new academic year - especially pray for the Primary
school prayer group who are aiming to get more involved with the
         school this year.
