><> The Trust Challenge! by John Baker
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
Last Wednesday I heard Steve Chalke at London School of
Theology (LST) and he spoke about his latest book 'Trust a
radical manifesto'. He gave a formula for trust as
Trust=Credibility+Dependability+Relationship / Self Interest
Thinking about this I really felt it made a lot of sense
especially for Churches trying to work together. I then
thought about the trustworthiness of God and have come up
with the following challenge which I would like to give to
all readers of the Christians in the Community Newsletter:
Assuming Trust = C + D + R / SI, produce 2 or 3 verses from
the Bible for each that illustrate the trustworthiness of God
First three reasonable answers by the end of November will
win a copy of Steve's new book - 'Trust - a radical
manifesto', and be included in the next newsletter.

Mark Chapman, vice-principal and curate of All Saints,
Cuddesdon has recently published a new book God's Holy Hill,
A History of Christianity in Cuddesdon, Wychwood Press at
£12.99 (ISBN 1902279204). The book is available from
bookshops or from Ripon College Office (inc. p & p) - all
proceeds go to Church funds (01865 874404).
This book charts for the first time the religious history of
a very special parish: for good or ill, the village of
Cuddesdon in Oxfordshire with its Bishop's Palace and
Theological College, has left its own indelible mark on the
Church of England. Using many unpublished sources, the author
traces the history of a village whose life has been
inextricably bound up with abbots, bishops and clergy for
well over a thousand years. Even before the coming of
Christianity it was an important Saxon burial site. From as
early as 956 it was an major source of revenue for the monks
of the great Abbey of Abingdon, who built its beautiful
church of All Saints. After the Reformation Cuddesdon became
the home of the Bishops of Oxford for much of the time from
the 1630s to the 1970s. From 1854 it has housed a Theological
College founded by the great Bishop Samuel Wilberforce which
has educated many thousands of clergy in the Anglican
Communion.
