><> Youth Café Meeting by Dan Evenhuis
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
We're having our first get together for the future Youth Café
in Wheatley on Wednesday, June 1st. Come along and meet
others from the community with a heart for the youth, hear an
explanation of the aim and goals of the cafe and see the plan
and time-scale for its opening.
Who: Anyone that is interested in the Cafe, especially
those who would like to be involved in some way.
Where: Granary Church, Church Rd, Wheatley
When: 7:30pm, Wednesday June 1st. Supper at 6:30pm.
(We'll have a pot of bolognaise)
Please find attached a brief summary of where we are up to
with the cafe at the moment. Have a good read of this as it
should give you an introduction to what we are hoping for
with the cafe.

><> Seaside Rock by Kath McNee
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
Plans for the week long summer club are progressing well!
A Vision Night was held on 26th April – an enthusiastic
meeting & a good turnout plus news of more who wish to be
involved but were unable to attend the meeting. We almost
have the target of 10 National Lifeguards to lead each team
of children - please pray for any who are unsure about making
the commitment, that the Lord will show them whether this is
for them or not.
- Children will all belong to a particular holiday resort
(Brighton, Eastbourne etc)
- Resorts will be headed up by National Lifeguards (team
leaders) assisted by Ranger Lifeguards (young leaders)
- The theme is “Peter, The Rock” - & stories such as “The
boarding house on the Rock & the wise & foolish builders”
- We will be setting up on Monday 22 August
- The club will run from Tuesday 23 – Saturday 27 August
(8:45-12:00) with a Family Celebration service on Sunday
28th.
- Future meeting dates –
June 13 - for everyone (Do come, it will be a BBQ at
Gordon & Jill Ewbank's, 128 Church Road)
July 15 - for all lifeguards (child protection
training)
August 3 - for everyone
If you would like to pray for the group, then please contact
Jill Ewbank at jill@gordonjill.freeserve.co.uk who will send
you prayer issues via email. One urgent issue is regarding
funding. As many of you know, the Co-op gave us a wonderfully
generous grant of £500 for the Go for Gold Holiday Club last
year. Our application for Seaside Rock is in and being
considered NOW ! Please pray that our application will be
successful, it would be wonderful to have this financial
support again.

><> ParenTALK from Care for the Family by Gordon Ewbank
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
With support from Fusion, plans are currently in hand to run
this eight week course in the Wheatley area in the autumn.
The material is designed to give parents the opportunity to
share their experiences, learn from each other and discover
some important principles of parenting. ParenTALK is very
interactive and aimed at all in the community, whilst having
a firm biblical basis. If you would like to help in some way
(eg. prayer, publicity, refreshments or actually facilitating
some sessions) then please do get in touch with Gordon Ewbank
on 01865 873326 or gordon@gordonjill.freeserve.co.uk. Or come
to a meeting at Gordon's (128 Church Road) on Wednesday, 15th
June at 8pm. If you may be interested in coming on the course
- or know someone who might - please do contact Gordon for
more details.
Please sea the attached poster "Resourcing the Community" for
details of Parentalk, and further courses being planned for
next year.

><> Pope Benedict XVI by Cyril Newton (Chair, WAC)
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
In his first sermon as pope, Benedict XVI has said that he
intends to work tirelessly for Christian unity, suggesting
that ‘concrete gestures’ are needed. He also sent greetings
to the representatives of other ‘Churches and ecclesial
communities’ Source

The Pope is 78 years old; he chose the name Pope Benedict XVI
and calls himself a "simple, humble worker," according to Fox
News. Pope Benedict XVI is the first German Pope since the
11th century. Joseph Ratzinger was born in Marktl am Inn,
Germany, April 16, 1927. He entered a seminary in 1939, but
had to delay it due to the World War II. In 1945, he
re-entered with his brother, George. He went to an institute
for theology called Herzogliches Georgianum. Josef and George
were ordained priests on June 29, 1951. He received his
doctrine in theology in July 1957
Experience: He was the archbishop of Munich, he was for many
years prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of
Faith, served for 20 years as John Paul II's chief
theological adviser. The dean of the College of Cardinals
since November 2002, he was elevated to cardinal by Pope Paul
VI in June 1977. He was elevated to Pope April 19, 2005.
More Information: Pope Benedict XVI is the 265 Successor of
Peter and the Bishop of Rome. He worked as the archbishop of
Munich and for many years prefect of the Sacred Congregation
for the Doctrine of Faith. He holds true to Catholic
doctrine. He was elected by only four votes. He is known for
being one of the top theologians in the Vatican. For the past
twenty years, he was Pope John Paul II's chief theological
adviser. When he was younger, he was more on the liberal
side, but after the 1968 student revolutions, he became
conservative. He has been a leading person to keep
traditional values in the Catholic Church.
