><> Live@6 by Ian MacDonald (CofE Diocesan Youth Advisor)
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
I was in Wheatley last night for the launch of a new 'Youth
Service' called Live@6. It was a great evening that a good
number of Tweens and Teens participated in.
Live@6 was the vision of the curate, she'd networked and
communicated the event well and drawn in lots of people from
other churches, organisations and the local theological
training college. The result was a good team who were
enthusiastic about the event, it also meant there was a
critical mass of young people.
The format was a good balance of the relaxed and the
structured with a clear idea of what was happening. The
church environment was welcoming, both because of the team
and the funky warm lighting/candles. A couple of fun
icebreakers were followed by doughnuts and then everyone
assembled on the carpeted area at the front of the Nave.
There was a good explanation as to what Live@6 was and how it
would work. The worship was explained and worked well. A fun
shared activity led into the discussion/learning on values
and what Jesus had to say, followed by some time at various
prayer stations that had been put together. This was all
drawn together with a participatory version of the Lords
prayer and some final worship. There was then hot chocolate
and discussion about where the young people could be involved
in Live@6.

><> Foundations for a growing faith by Gordon Ewbank
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
Alongside it's role in facilitating local churches to reach
out to their communities (for example, through the
forthcoming Wheatley Harvest Funday on 21st Oct), Fusion
Youth and Community UK also runs its Foundations discipleship
course for adults. This time around ‘Foundations’ is being
run as a low budget, week long residential course, from
October 15th-22nd, in Stockenchurch. The course has a strong
emphasis on practical application and is designed to lay the
foundations for a deeper and stronger faith, so helping to
create an integrated Christian lifestyle.
Foundations provides vital tools that enable participants to
be more productive in their relationships and to unlock some
of the mysteries that attend personal existence. It takes
seriously the disciplines of theology, psychology and
sociology within three streams of material –
a) Living with God
The Living with God stream is designed to help us come to
terms with our lives by being able to distinguish between the
voice of God and the host of other human needs and prejudices
which clamour for our attention. How can we stay connected to
God so we live according to His values? This is applied
theology at its best.
b) Living with Others
Living with Others helps us in the development of practical
skills that allow us to become vehicles of love and change
and growth. This stream will help you become more aware of
the processes in relationships and groups. It includes units
that will help you become a better listener and on how to
give appropriate feedback to help others grow – skills you
can put into practice straight away.
c) Living with Yourself
Living with Yourself helps us understand the make-up of our
own souls. How did we get the picture we have of ourselves?
Can we trust it? How does the body with its nervous system,
its hormones and other chemical responses impact on us? This
stream will challenge you to grow in your self awareness to
become more of whom God has made you to be.
This course is highly recommended. For further details please

><> Godly Play by Ann Stephenson
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
Annie Hughes and Ann Stephenson are attending courses on
Godly Play and plan to run a series of 4 Sunday afternoon
sessions for children from 12th November to 3rd December (1st
in Advent)
What is "Godly Play"? We shall make a presentation about it
during the service on 22nd October. Unlike most provision for
children it is slow quiet and contemplative. Two people
manage a session; the storyteller and the door keeper. A
story is told, either one of the sacred stories of the bible,
or a parable, or a story based on some part of the liturgy,
using simple wooden models and the wonderful desert box as
visual aids. The children are encouraged to wonder about what
they have seen and heard, then to respond with art work or
retelling the story themselves. After the art materials have
been cleared away there is a Feast of juice and biscuits and
the children say goodbye.
We (Annie and Ann) have been deeply moved by what we have
seen of this, and feel that it can contribute greatly to
children's spiritual development. Pray that we can attract
some children to experience it.

+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
><> Harvest Funday by Cyril Newton
+-----------------------------+-----------------------------+
We have just been meeting to catch up on progress for the
Wheatley Harvest Funday on the 21st October (2-5pm) at the
Church Road recreation ground, and it is coming up fast!
For your diaries there is a Funday Preparation & Training
Night at the Granary Church on Monday 9th at 8pm. Please come
even if you may not be around on Saturday 21st – it’s an
opportunity to meet and hear what’s planned and pray for the
event
So where we up to…what are we thankful for and what are we
asking for prayer…
o We are really thankful that we can make use of the Granary
as this will allow visitors to see what the Youth Café and
it will be a welcoming venue if people want to come across.
Please pray visitors will see opportunities for building
community
o We have a huge tent available that belongs to the Hess
family – it needs 8 people to assemble it – please pray we
have sturdy volunteers to help so this is in place by
12:30pm
o Please pray for fine weather – visitors, volunteers and
gazebos are not best suited for stormy weather!
o Please pray that people come with open hearts ready listen,
ready to respond so that we can be a channel of joy and
encouragement and people sense Christ’s light at the event
o Please pray for protection as we plan and organise the
event so that those involved can find time and energy to
get done what is need in good time before the event and on
the day
o We hope that the local Churches will donate funds to defray
some of the costs of the event, we need at least £200 to
cover things such as 2 bouncy castles, refreshments and
materials for face painting, balloon sculpting etc. Please
pray that funds will be available so the day can be
properly financed
o We need a Refreshment coordinator; people are offering
their time to help on the day – however we need a this
person now who can take initiatives to get things in place
now and make sure things go smoothly on the day
o There is a Fusion Foundations course finishing just before
the Funday – please pray for the course leaders and
participants that they will not be overtired and can enjoy
helping enable a sense of open crowd
If you feel prompted to come and join in but have not been
involved before that’s no problem – building community just
by turning up then provides an opportunity to see God’s gifts
in action
